Markus Schmotz

Wertwandler GmbH

Markus Schmotz is a Level 3 Ambassador of Agile Academy and a rare blend of physicist, systems thinker, and human-centered transformation leader. With more than 15 years of leadership experience, he has introduced Agile ways of working, spearheaded a global Lean & Leadership transformation across 30 production sites impacting 4,500 people, and played a pivotal role in saving an entire company from closure. For Markus, people and systems are inseparable—and his passion lies in decoding that relationship to drive cultural change and long-term value creation.

Working in the intersection of Agile, Lean, and Leadership, Markus brings together the most effective elements of all three disciplines. He has coached C-level executives in Business Agility and Flight Levels, trained over 200 leaders, and led group-wide cultural initiatives that span beyond frameworks. His ability to blend systemic reflection, adaptive leadership, and operational clarity has made him a trusted guide for organizations seeking flow, performance, and purpose.

Markus Schmotz is a physicist by training and a leadership catalyst by passion. His academic foundation in physics taught him to view the world through a systemic lens, a perspective he now applies to people and organizations alike. Rejecting the stereotypical image of scientists hidden behind data, Markus thrives on human connection and cultural transformation. Over the last 15 years, he has served in numerous leadership roles across the value chain—leading Agile implementations, organizational turnarounds, and strategic culture initiatives with wide-reaching impact.

He led a global Lean & Leadership transformation across 30 production sites involving over 4,500 people, played a critical role in saving a company from closure, and trained more than 200 managers and leaders in agile and adaptive practices. As a coach to C-level executives in one of Europe’s most influential transportation companies, Markus applies systemic self-reflection, leadership agility, and value-stream clarity to help organizations evolve.

Today, he works in the converging space between Agile, Lean, and Leadership, combining the strengths of each to guide companies into flow states where effectiveness meets efficiency. He navigates beyond frameworks, helping clients shape cultures rooted in trust, adaptability, and sustainable value delivery.

Outside his professional life, Markus finds joy in family life, serves as the chairman of a local tennis club, and enjoys cooking, heavy metal music, and epic fantasy literature—a reflection of his dynamic, grounded, and curious personality.

Markus is the host of the podcast "Strategiewerkstatt" on YouTube.
